Penasaran ingin mencoba produk ERP kami?

WGS sekarang telah memiliki solusi ERP Software as a Service.

WGS keeps needing talented resources to keep up with its growth. For our Outsourcing division alone, it is projected that we need around 75-100 more developers in 2012. ITHB, Institut Teknologi Harapan Bangsa, is a solid university that consistently churns out talented graduates. It simply makes sense to partner with them, thanks to our VP of HR, Feby Artandi, who leads this partnership initiatives.

Thanks also to Mr. Samuel Tarigan, the University Chancellor, on February 26th I had the opportunity a seminar to the students convincing them to stay in IT career, exposing them to the hot web industry, and persuading them to join WGS. Our CTO, William Notowidagdo, gave a separate seminar to the students introducing Ruby on Rails and its benefits as a rapid development framework.

After the seminar, many ITHB students signed up to work at WGS. It turns out the students and ITHB werent aware that there is a significant IT company like WGS in Bandung.

In summary, WGS partnership with ITHB includes:

ITHB provides a database of superior graduates, and together with WGS persuades the students to join WGS

Avoid brain-drain and start persuading graduates to contribute as much as possible inside our beloved Indonesia

WGS provides consultation to ITHB lecturers, including together build a curriculum, to better-prepare ITHB students into the real-world IT industry, especially the hot web sector

WGS will offer tens of Internship positions to ITHB students

WGS hopes to have more partnership with other universities around Bandung!

The gathering is on Saturday 22nd of January, and the goal of this gathering is

December is the best time of the year. We had the chance to introspect, what we succeeded on, and what we failed on, and how we should improve. We also had the chance to face the new year and set a respectable goal.

Every 6 months, in June and December, we made major revisions to our company policies and procedures. This month, we moved all our documents from Google Docs to Google Sites. The new Google Sites contain complete policies and procedures (which become ever more important with the increasing number of employees), the organization structure for 2011, and job descriptions for each position. Once socialized, we’ll hold a Q&A session in January with all of our employees.

We formalized the four external divisions for 2011. They are Outsourcing, Government, Enterprise, and Software, and each has its own revenue / growth target. The two internal divisions are our engines: HR and Technology.

Outsourcing division, headed by Eric Rusli, aims to add 40 more developers working for our outsourcing clients via our service marks KiranaTama and Qorser. Government division, headed by Deny Nursyam, and Enterprise division, headed by Abdul Karim, each aims for a respectable revenue target with set strategies and budget. The Software division, headed by Thomas Muliawan, aims to complete and launch our horizontal applications by this year, and make our products known.

The Technology division, headed by William Notowidagdo, will be strengthen. Some new measures are introduced such as separation of QA unit from the Project Management unit, and introduction of a Maintenance Unit to handle problematic projects. The HR division, headed by Feby Artandi, aims to be able to recruit when needed (such as by strike partnership with universities around Bandung), keeping employees happy (retain them longer than a year or two), and make English training compulsory (both grammar and conversation) to help propell our Outsourcing division to get to the next level.

That’s it. 2011 here we come!

After months of cramping more than 70 people at our Terusan Pasir Koja office, and 15 people each at our old offices at Flamboyan and Adimaja, we finally found a new great place to rent at Jln Karapitan no. 100. It is spacious, with 1200 square meter it alone can hold up to 150 people!

So we closed off our two small offices at Flamboyan and Adimaja, while keeping the Pasir Koja office. We hope our company growth keeps going and the new empty office spaces can be filled soon. Here the front photo of our Karapitan office.

Karapitan Office

To celebrate this new office, on Saturday the 27th of November we held a simple celebratory lunch with the traditional yellow rice (”Tumpengan”).

I hope this blog serves as further information about WGS to anyone interested in it (prospective employees and clients and partners). And thus unlike previously, I will avoid writing anything that is not related to WGS (such as my opinions etc, which should go to my personal blog instead).

The current wgs.co.id website doesnt tell much about us. Even our own employees thought the WGS website doesnt portray an IT company. It doesnt try to sell anything but career to prospective employees! I totally agree, but even as I have known this for a long time, there is no one to work on updating the website! Updating the website (and internet marketing in general) has become an afterthought, as even without it, we keep growing to a current headcount of 90 employees.

However we realize the bigger we are, the more necessary is a strong sales & marketing team. Be paranoid: imagine not only we cannot grow anymore, but the scary thought of having a lot of idle engineers! So in the past couple of months we have hired another salesperson for our overseas SMB division, KiranaTama, a new salesperson for our venture in domestic enterprise market as an Oracle Gold partner, a three-person internet marketing team, and two salespeople for our government division, Qorser.

We also face an at best linear growth: if we grow, we have to hire more people. Low productivity is also shadowing our company. We cannot increase prices and yet we have to keep increasing salaries to keep our best talents! To grow exponentially, and to increase productivity per employee, and to transform ourselves from a mere workshop, we have to have a product. So we assign a team currently building an SaaS product for the Indonesian SMB market – to be launched early 2011.

In the Engineering division, we are introducing a new position, VP of Project Management, who’s taking the responsibility of overseeing our Project Managers. Thus I hope our CTO have more time to pursue our longer-term vision – that is to achieve CMMI.
In Indonesia there are reportedly only two companies with CMMI level 3. We want to be the third by 2013!

In Human Resources, it seems that the bigger we are, the easier it is to find and retain good talents. Two years ago, very few employees think of working at WGS long term. Many see our company as merely a stepping stone – and those who doesnt, gets bored in less than 1 year and similarly left. We have now found many ways to keeping good talents, among them are: we need to provide fresh challenges all the time, we need to have employees in control of their own career, we need them working for a purpose. Now the people who want to leave WGS is the tiny minority.

The biggest (and most expensive) problem is now office space. We have to operate our two old offices as the current office can no longer hold everyone in, and yet the lease contract is still one year away to end. But I shouldnt grumble about it – it is a blessing that so far we can still grow, and thus contribute more IT to the world.

That’s all the updates for now, happy Idul Fitri and happy holidays!
