For smartphone users that are not that keen on Location-based Services (LBS) app, this may spare your despise. LBS implementation is beyond “checking in”, “coupons” or “badges”, it is a whole new prospect of explorations and usefulness.

Below are a few of them that actually stand out in the crowd, looking flashy and doesn’t leave its value:

1. Parking Douche

Moscow-based newspaper “The Village” developed this lovely app to teach people how to park their cars correctly by using shame and humiliation.

This Android app enables pedestrian (or fellow annoyed car owner) to take a photo, enter the license plate number and other details, and post it to the app. The Village will then post the submission of car photo and license plate numbers as a pop up ad in their website, and will not disappear until the user shares it on Facebook and/or other social media platforms. The perk of this app is, the pop up ad only visible in the same neighborhood of the douchey car by geo-locating IP addresses. Therefore, public defamation is ensured in the vicinity, and globally via social media.

Russia’s been suffering from douchey parkers for quite some time, and the birth of this app should teach them a suitable lesson, or at least provides people some good laugh.

2. Hijack

Living up to its name, “Hijack” is an innovative app developed for “Meat Pack”, a sneaker shop in Guatemala with its sole purpose; to hijack customers. Meat Pack shares the app to its customer, and every time that customer enters a competitor’s store, the GPS function will be triggered to launch a countdown. That countdown also poses as the amount of discount the customer will receive when they arrive at the Meat Pack store. Yes, somebody run his way to get an 89% off for a pair of new kicks.

The idea is simple, daring, interactive and beneficial to the customer. Not to mention, it is viral worthy.

Creativity’s finest will act as both functional and memorable item. The two examples above showed us that there are more to geo-tagging and location based app than narcissism and giveaways, so why not cross the boundaries and trends, and create something with more than just map-pinning and check-ins?

Do you have any other “crazy” ideas involving location based app?
