How do we leverage the best in cloud technology to reduce IT costs, improve productivity, and create truly global teams that can collaborate on the world’s most pressing computing needs? On the other hand, how do we make sure that an IT world centered on public connectivity and shared solutions remains safe and maintains users privacy? The Indonesian CIO Network (ICION) is holding Data Protection and Cloud Solutions Day on June 20th, 2013, in Dago, Bandung in order to explore these questions. Over 950 senior executives and IT professionals convened in order to stay on top of issues at the intersection of cloud connectivity and security; a few of them are CIO / IT Manager from Nutrifood, BNI Life, Prudential, XL, and CIMB Niaga.

One essential topic in the realm of cloud computing is ‘Total Cost of Ownership in the Cloud’ (TCO). WGS CEO Ikin Wirawan presented this issue and advocate infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) as the right alternative to on-premise solutions.

When we assess cloud infrastructure, we find that when implemented correctly, preferably with the guidance of an experienced partner that understands the cost structures of cloud services, the potential TCO savings are great.

Investment in physical infrastructure (machines, equipment, floor space, etc.) can create a significant costs for even small organizations. However, operating on-premise infrastructure also carries long term recurring costs such as power, labor, and vendor licensing fees.

Furthermore, it should be noted that there is an additional cost: effective scaling. Almost all organization must plan for growth, and growth itself is a major project within an on-premise network structure.

While cloud services such as AWS require a careful understanding to ensure the most cost-effective utilization, and also require professional IT expertise to manage, they can create immense savings given that the provider absorbs and manages the costs of keeping the infrastructure running. On top of this, cloud solutions can expand with less difficulty as no on-premise configuration comes into play when scaling up a network.

If you are not able to attend ICION’s event, contact WGS directly to learn in detail about the TCO advantages of cloud infrastructure.
